Serious Gaming Technology and the use of Access and Video Control Systems in Maritime Security and Logistics
TIME Project Showcases the Effectiveness of Cross-Border Collaboration Following Successful Ostend Event
The TIME project has illustrated the power and effectiveness of cross-border collaboration and idea-sharing following the project’s first official workshop event held on May 26, 2011 in Ostend, Belgium.
Twenty seven representatives from leading companies located in Flanders, Nord-Pas de Calais and South East England came together for the sector specific workshop which focused on Serious Gaming Technology and the use of Access and Video Control Systems in Maritime Security and Logistics.
Hosted at the Andromeda Hotel in Ostend, and coordinated by the Flanders’ project partner Innotek, speakers from France, Belgium and the United Kingdom inspired attendees with the latest developments, application of new technologies and examples of the opportunities that are available for companies looking to enhance their position and work collaboratively across the international borders.
Elise Van Marcke of Antwerp-based Sakari Games opened the workshop with a detailed overview of the Serious Games industry and the impact it can have on both consumer and business markets.
Jérome Poulain of French communications agency Audace illustrated the use of 3D computer animation across the shipping and ports sector and was followed by Maxence Devoghelaere from gaming agency 3D duo, who demonstrated their development skills and explained how creation and design has moved forward in the industry.
The gaming presentations stimulated high levels of discussion amongst the delegates and Jacqueline Cawston from Coventry University’s Serious Games Institute in the UK demonstrated some of the latest technology during her address, unveiling cutting-edge gadgetry such as handheld applications designed for identifying weapons and threats.
The afternoon session on Access and Video Control Systems consisted of informative presentations from Andy Stynen of Dataflow, Kris Beerts of SERIS NV and Frank Alech of robust security camera development company FTA bvba.
The event concluded with a workshop session where attendees broke off into small groups to learn more about each other and explore opportunities for cross border collaboration on future projects.
TIME project lead partner, Abdelkader Bousnane (Aditec Pas-de-Calais – CEEI) commented, “The first TIME event has been extremely successful. The speakers shared a host of insightful information about the advancements in technology and the opportunities available for companies operating in the maritime sector – the event has been of great value to all that attended and it has already shown positive signs of future collaboration.”
